In 1983, I began my teaching career at Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn, Alabama. I spent the next two years directing the Marching and Concert Bands, teaching Beginner Band, and teaching K-6 General Music. Due to budget cuts, I left there in 1985.
The next 15 years took quite a different turn, and I spent those years working in the environmental field. I worked for a company that privatized water and wastewater treatment facilities. The last 10 years, I worked part-time for Alabama Department of Environmental Management as a contract instructor. I helped Wastewater Operators all over East Alabama who were needing to upgrade or receive certification. I also developed and taught safety courses for the facility I worked at.
In 2005, I had moved to Tennessee and was employed by Trace Group Home (a group home for at risk boys)in Waynesboro, Tennessee as a GED instructor and Youth Care Worker. My responsibilities were expanded to teach music in their onsite school. When Trace Group Home closed in 2007, I was transferred to their sister facility, Highland Youth Center in Hohenwald, Tennessee. I taught music there until that facility closed in 2010.
In the fall of 2011, I began teaching music for Wayne County Schools. My first position was split between Collinwood Middle School and Waynesboro Middle School. In the fall of 2012, I transferred to Collinwood Elementary School. I would love to stay right here until I am ready to retire!
